Britannia House in the heart of Shoreditch is a refurbishment and extension to the third and fourth floor. The work includes 5no new residential penthouse apartments with roof terraces and extensive green roofs at 4th floor, an extended and refurbished 3rd floor B1 commercial space and new residential entrance and lobby at Ground floor.
DF Roofing Ltd were awarded the contract by MY Construction to carry out the flat roofing package for this development. The systems which were installed were full warm deck PVC single-ply waterproofing system to the penthouses and roof terraces, mechanically fixed using thermally broken washers and screws through a rigid PIR flat board insulation over a polyethylene Vapour control layer onto a plywood substrate.
To the commercial internal pods we used a Cold applied, highly permanent elastic liquid waterproofing coating to form a seamless, fast curing and long lasting fully bonded system making this a suitable system to use direct to a concrete substrate.
The Sedum green roof is a low maintenance and low growing sedum with grasses and herbs consisting of a protection and storage fleece over waterproofing layer, drainage board for a rapid discharge of surplus water and filtration fleece to prevent fine particles from forming sludge in the drainage layer. Following the filtration fleece a 60-80mm substrate layer was installed which has a high water storage capacity and air porosity finished with a pre-cultivated sedum mat for the rapid establishment of vegetation in order to prevent wind erosion, with decomposable carrier.
